When Lt. Xox of Girsu Space Port hires Oren Vilkas and the team to investigate a series of threats and attacks made against him, it’s a recipe for trouble. Xox has been a thorn in their side since A Town Called Potato. So the first mystery is why Oren even agrees to take the case.

Xox has his suspects, a collection of weird and quirky aliens, including a former girlfriend, a shrimp-like creature from a dark planet, a desert-dwelling rodent alien, and a Nandorian ship captain. But as the team rockets off to strange planets to interview the suspects, things on Girsu begin to escalate violently with explosions and snipers with blasters.

Meanwhile, Buad and Blan are on the outs and refuse to work with each other, jarring all the team dynamics out of place. When Jace runs into an old flame, things become even more complicated. Not to mention they have to deal with Xox the whole time.

It’s a lot for Earth guy, Gabriel Lake, to navigate as he and the gang attempt to keep Lt. Xox alive and get to the bottom of a plot that goes deeper than anyone realizes.
